Submitting W-4s for Exempt Employees

January 17, 2018

Every year, the IRS requires employees intending to keep their W-4 “Exempt” status active for the next tax year to submit a new dated and signed W-4 form. New forms should be submitted to your payroll coordinator.

This year the deadline for submitting the new W-4 is Feb. 15, 2018.

If an employee fails to submit a new W-4 by the deadline, the employee’s exemption status will automatically be reverted to “S-0” (Single, No Exemptions) as of Feb. 15, 2018.  The S-0 status remains in effect until a new W-4 form claiming “Exempt” is received. Note that newly submitted W-4s will only affect payments after the date of receipt.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your payroll coordinator.
