New Form I-9 Required for New Hires

September 19, 2017

Starting September 18, 2017, employers must use the newest version of USCIS’s Form I-9 to verify the identity and work eligibility of every new hire. The new form was published in July and applies only to new hires, not existing employees. This version of the form varies only slightly from previous versions – it includes slightly different instructions and adds to the list of acceptable verification documents.

Failure to use the new form may subject employers to fines and/or penalties in the event of an audit.

Instructions for completing the revised I-9 form are available here. You may also visit our Forms and Resources page for more information here.
